Stephen Spurrier

Steven SpurrierSteven joined the London wine trade in 1964, moved to Paris in 1970 and bought a wine shop – Caves de la Madeleine – in the centre of the city and in 1973 founded L’Academie du Vin, France’s first private wine school. In 1976 Stephen held what became an historic blind tasting between California and French wines known as the Judgment of Paris.

He created, with Michael Broadbent, the Christie’s Wine Course in 1982; is the writer of several books on wines and winner of many awards.

He is now an international wine consultant, President of the Circle of Wine Writers, Consultant Editor for Decanter Magazine and Chairman of the Wine Society of India. Stephen has recently planted the first four of ten hectares for the Bride Valley Vineyards sparkling wine on his wife’s Dorset estate.
